Our Inspiration: Mary Rakovich, Tea Party Founder
We have seen many articles about the Tea Party movement over the last several months and how it is supposed to change US politics in the 2010 elections. So what is the Tea Party movement and what does it stand for? To answer this, maybe we should look at the beginning. An article by Washington Post reporter David Montgomery published in the May 30, 2009 edition of the Sacramento Bee says that Mary Rakovich started the movement with a protest in Florida on Feb. 10, 2009. The article has a picture of her holding a sign saying: "My Grandkids shouldn't have to pay for my helathcare". The article also says that: "She said she would like to go back to work once she gets her hips replaced, which she hopes will be after her Medicare kicks in later this year. But she's worried because she's convinced the new health care reform law will cut Medicare."
The article doesn't explain how she thinks money to pay for the new health care plan will come from a different place than the money to pay for Medicare.
